Oktoberfest in Germany

The Oktoberfest is a really popular festival, which isn’t only celebrated in Germany, it´s celebrated all over the world. But the Oktoberfest comes from Germany.

It started first in Bavaria, a province of Germany, because Ludwig of Bavaria and princess Therese from Sachsen-Hildburghausen married. That was on the 17. October 1810. All the pople, who celebrated it on that day decided to celebrate it every year, so it became a national festival. The Guardian of the Oktoberfest is Bavaria.

Honestly, right now in the 21 century much people use the Oktoberfest only for drinking beer, but we have still a few traditions:

  • You eat hendl (chicken)
  • weißwürstchen (white sausages) with
  • Bretzel (pretzel)
  • and süßer Senf (a sweet mustard)
  • and the adults are drinking lots of beer

Also, in the places where the Oktoberfest is celebrated, it almost looks like a fair: Oktoberfest 2014

So if you don’t only want to drink beer and eat all the delicious things you can absolutely do something else too, for example take a ride on a rollercoaster or enjoy the view on a ferris wheel.

If you are tired of celebrating the Oktoberfest there is lots to do, if you are in the city where the Oktoberfest was founded (Munich/ München) :

  • In Düsseldorf there is the famous Rheinturm, with a really good restaurant at the top, you can eat and enjoy the view at the same time ! Also, the restaurant turns/spins, so you have all the time a different view on the river called Rhein and the city Düsseldorf. http://www.guennewig.de/rheinturm-duesseldorf
